Welcome Alumni!
Our camper and counselor alumni are so important to us. Your stories, experiences, friendships, and continued investment are the Alkulana story. Whether your camp memories began at the House of Happiness, the Hillside Center, the Oregon Hill Center, or beyond, we all came together at our little spot in Bath County. Whether your camping days started in the 1940s, 1990s, or just last year, you’re part of our Alkulana Family even when you no longer attend or work at camp. We would love for you to stay involved.
You’ll find a few ways to connect below:

Volunteer
We LOVE when our alums continue their relationship with Camp Alkulana by volunteering. There are several ways you can volunteer:
Volunteer on one of our Spring Work Days to help spiff up our facility and get it ready for summer. We can use help with yard work, cleaning, painting, light carpentry, and other skilled work. Find out more information here.
Volunteer on “bus days” in Richmond when they are coming or leaving for camp. We can use help greeting children and families, checking them in, and keeping everything organized! Contact our Camper and Family Liaison for more information.
Volunteer during the summer season. We have needs for volunteers to staff the infirmary, cook in the kitchen, and lead crafts. We can also always use grounds-keeping and repair volunteers. Email our camp director for more information.
Volunteer with our school-year programs (Alkulana RVA and APP) by bringing food or leading activities. Or help with our family support programs like Christmas Store or Thanksgiving food delivery. Contact our Camper and Family Liaison for more information.
Alumni Gatherings
We host alumni retreats at Camp Alkulana every five years. Our next retreat is scheduled for August 2025. Does that feel too far way? You can always plan your own retreat at Camp Alkualna with friends or family members. Check out our Retreats and Rentals page for more information.
Giving to Alkulana
Financial gifts to Camp Alkulana help continue the legacy for today’s campers. Here are some giving opportunities to consider:
Online Giving: One-time or recurring gifts can easily be made online. Setting up a recurring online gift is a simple way to build Alkulana into your budget, and we love it because it helps us know that we can count on your gift each month. Consider how much you can afford to give each month (some give $5 a month, others give $500) and set it up today through the e-giving website.
Sponsor a Camper: When considering how much to give, consider the camp’s cost per camper. While most campers only pay $25 to attend a session of camp, the camp’s programming budget amounts to a cost of approximately $500 for each camper. A gift of $500 to Alkulana could mean a world of difference to a child who could attend camp. You can give online or mail a check to Camp Alkulana at 2828 Emerywood Parkway Richmond, VA 23294.
Legacy Gifts: Gifts to the Alkulana Endowment Fund are an investment in the next one hundred years of Alkulana. As our endowment grows, the interest earned each year can provide increasingly significant contributions to our operations. Consider giving towards the future of Alkulana. Contact our Camp Director for more information.
Designated Gifts: Is there something you really loved to do at camp? A place you really loved? You can give gifts designated specifically to fund things like kitchen equipment, rock climbing upgrades, or cabin improvements. What makes you excited to give toward? Contact our Camp Director to discuss your interests and our current needs.
