Camp Alkulana’s experienced staff work to create a wonderful experience for every camper!
Camp Director: Beth Reddish Wright
Beth first came to Camp Alkulana as a counselor in 2001 and became the Camp Director in 2009. She has a deep love for Camp Alkulana and enjoys working with campers and counselors in its outdoor setting. As a counselor, her favorite camp activities were rock climbing and canoeing.
Before coming to work at Camp Alkulana, Beth worked with several community programs that provided services for children and low-income families. Beth graduated from college at Stetson University in DeLand, Florida and received a Masters degree in Social Work from Boston University. She met her husband, Art, at Camp Alkulana when they were both counselors. They have two sons, Julian and Adrian.

Camp Registrar and Community Programs Coordinator: Anna Tuckwiller
Anna first visited camp in the early 2000’s while completing an undergraduate degree in Music Education at Virginia Commonwealth University. After finishing her Master of Divinity from Baptist Theological Seminary at Richmond she worked her first summer as a camp counselor in 2006.
Since 2010 she has served as camp’s registrar and has lead camp’s school-year programming, first in a volunteer capacity and later as staff. She has also played influential roles in founding camp’s alumni association in 2015, leading behavioral segments of staff training, and fundraising. While Anna has work experience at 4 different camps and 3 churches, she would tell you that it is her service with Camp Alkulana’s community where she has felt most at home and empowered to use her gifts. When she isn’t working she’s likely to be found at church, swing dancing or being “the cool” aunt to her niece and nephew.

Site Director: Jimmy Landrum
Jimmy has been involved with Camp Alkulana since the 1990s. He spent his career as a fire fighter in Beaumont, Texas and volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America. In 2008, he took on the job of Site Director, helping to care for the camp’s facilities and host retreats throughout the year. Jimmy has training and decades of experience in rock climbing and rappelling, caving, canoeing, and lifeguarding, and therefore provides program leadership and training in these crucial areas of our camp program.
Every summer we hire 40-50 people to work in some capacity with our summer program as cooks, nurses, craft leaders, and camp counselors. All staff members are experienced in their field, receive background checks, and are trained for the positions they fill at Camp Alkulana. Learn more about summer staff opportunities.
